History

Timothy Edward Hanley was born at Werona, Victoria, on 23 October 1891. He was the son of Patrick Hanley and Ann Veronica Sager.[1]

Military Experience

Tomothy Hanley (7257) enlisted at Brisbane on 17 February 1916. At that time he was working and living at Kinleymore, near Wondai, Queensland, and started study towards becoming a Veterinary Surgeon, but was employed as an Agent for Machinery and Motor Cars. A single 26 year old, he listed his father, Patrick Hanley of Newstead, Victoria as his Next-of-Kin.[2]

Timothy embarked from Melbourne on 4 August 1917 as a member of the March Reinforcements to the Tunnelling Corps.[3]

Timothy was taken on strength to the 3rd Tunnelling Company on 10 March 1918.[4]

Timothy returned from leave on 5 September 1919 and left London on 22 September 1919 for return to Australia on board the Port Sydney. Disembarking in Melbourne on 12 November 1919, and in company with his brother Patrick, Timothy was discharged in Melbourne on 12 December 1919.[5]

HANLEY, Timothy E.— The Relative and Friends of Mrs. D. M. Hanley and Family (Murgon) are invited to attend the Funeral of her beloved husband and their Father, Timothy Edward Hanley, late 1st and 2nd A.I.F., to leave the Crypt of the Holy Name Cathedral, Gipps Street, Valley, To-morrow (Thursday) Forenoon at 10 o'clock, for Lutwyche Cemetery: Mass at 7 a.m. K. M. SMITH. L2031.[6]
