Patrick J. Hanley

Patrick Jospeh Hanley was born at Werona, Yandoit, Victoria, in 1887. He was the son of Patrick Hanley and Ann Veronica Sager.[1]

Military Experience

Patrick Hanley (7790) enlisted at Brisbane on 10 Ocotber 1916. At that time he was working as a platelayer and living at Kinleymore, near Wondai, Queensland. A single 29 year old, he listed his father, Patrick Hanley of Newstead, Victoria as his Next-of-Kin.[2]

Patrick embarked from Melbourne on 21 November 1917 as a member of the Mining Corps on board the Nestor. He disembarked at Suez on 15 December 1917. On 08 January he embarked on the Transport ship Abbasiah, disembarking at Taranto Italy, on 12 January 1918. Hanley proceeded to France on 15 March 1918 and was taken on strength with the 2nd Tunnelling Company on 24 March 1918.[3]

Patrick was granted Leave to England from France between 15 February and 1 March 1919. His Leave was extended until 11 March pending approval of his application for Non-Military Employment. Between 10 March and 9 June 1919, Patrick undertook Non-Military Employment at Buckingham Gate Motor Works, London, gaining experience in motor engineering. This was extended until 9 September when he reported to A.I.F. Headquarters for repatriation and demobilisation.[4]

Patrick left London on 22 September 1919 for return to Australia on board the Port Sydney. Disembarking in Melbourne on 12 November 1919, was discharged in Melbourne on 12 December 1919.[5]
