History

John Veitch was born at Ballarat. [1]

Military Experience

Sapper (2715) John Tennant Veitch was a 34 year old single miner living at Ballarat when he enlisted on 14 January 1916. [2]

His next of kin listed was his mother Mrs. Margaret Veitch, 226 Ascot Street, Ballarat, Victoria. His unit, 1st Tunnelling Company, embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT Euripides on 4 April 1916. He returned to Australia on 20 April 1919.[1]

Veitch was a member of the 14th Depot Battalion Ballarat from 22 January 1916, and transferred to the Miners Corps on 04 February 1916. He travelled to France on the City of Edinburgh and arrived at Etaples, France on 18 July 1916.[3] He was taken on strength to the 1st Tunnelling Company on 29 September 1916.[4]

Sapper Veitch returned to Australia on the Boonah.[5]
