Archibald Chisholm

History

Archibald Chisholm was born at Ballarat. During World War One his next of kin was listed at Archibald' brother Archibald Chisholm of Cardigan, near Ballarat.[1]

Military Experience

With a serial number of 018 Sapper Archibald Chisholm was a 37 year old single farmer from Learmonth when he enlisted for service during World War One on 17 July 1915 at Learmonth.[2] He was originally put into the Miners Corps but was transferred to the Australian Base Depot as a Batman to Capt. J.D. Shand at Etaples on 11 October 1916. On 16 August 1917 Chisholm was attached to the 2nd Tunnelling Company.[3]

He embarked from Sydney, New South Wales, on board the HMAT Ulysses on 20 February 1916 and returned to Australia on 20 May 1919 on board the Nestor. [4]
